Floor Coating Questions We Hear Every Week
Straight answers about our polyurea and polyaspartic floor coatings, from the first photo you send to the day you park on it. Still wondering about something? Call or text (517) 332-1322.
Before install day
Two ways. We can come measure, or you can text or email photos for a digital estimate: one wide shot of the floor, your rough square footage, and three or four close-ups of any cracks or pitting. We answer within 24 hours on weekdays. Weekend requests may wait until Monday.
No. Narrow it down to two or three colors and we bring extra flake on install day, so you can choose in your own garage light. Browse our flake colors.
Keep the concrete dry for 10 days before your appointment: don't wash or rinse the floor and don't park cars with wet tires inside. Clear out shelving, appliances and stored items, and keep the driveway open so we can pull right up. You don't need to sweep. We grind and vacuum anyway.
Tell us when we quote. You handle the small items, and on a big basement where furniture has nowhere else to go, we can sometimes coat one half, let it cure, and come back to finish the other half. It's a call we make job by job, based on what works best for you.
The coating
No. We install a polyurea base coat, a full broadcast of polymer flake, and a polyaspartic topcoat. We don't install epoxy at all. See how they compare.
Every slab gets diamond ground so the base coat bonds into it. Cracks, pitting and joints get repaired with polygrout, and we cut out and stitch even hairline cracks so they don't open back up through the new floor.
No. The polyaspartic topcoat is UV-stable, which is why we can use the same system on patios, porches and pool decks.
The full flake broadcast adds texture and grip. Slip-resistant texture improves traction, but no floor is slip-proof, so take normal care when it's wet.
Install day and after
A typical garage is done in one day. Bigger floors and basements can take longer, and we'll tell you the plan when we quote.
Light foot traffic within about 24 hours. We'll tell you on install day when it's ready for vehicles, since cure time depends on temperature and the floor.
Moisture is the one real threat to a coating, so we won't put it down on a wet slab. We may reschedule for weather. When a slab is damp we can grind, use acetone, run fans and cover it, but sometimes waiting for a dry day is the right call.
Sweep or vacuum grit, and wash with mild soap and water. The topcoat resists oil, chemicals, tire marks and stains.
Warranty and paying
Our limited lifetime residential warranty covers peeling, chipping, blistering, discoloration, fading and delamination caused by installation or material defects, for as long as you own the home. It transfers once to the next owner, who has 60 days to contact us. Pool decks and open outdoor surfaces are covered for 3 years, wood surfaces aren't covered, and cracks in the concrete aren't covered. After three years, repairs for wear or damage are billed at a small hourly rate.
Yes, through Wisetack. Checking your options is a soft credit pull, so your credit score isn't affected.
When the job is done. Check and Zelle carry no extra fee.
No. Michigan classifies floor coating installers as painters and doesn't require a license, so check an installer's track record, reviews and written warranty. Here's what to ask.
